In this class we will reclaim movement just for the pleasure of it. Just because of how good it can feel to move your body.In a culture where “no pain no gain” is the predominant viewpoint around exercise, it can be easy to think of movement as something we do to punish ourselves for not being ____ enough. (Insert whatever your inner critic usually fills that blank with.) We forget that our bodies love movement and it is something we can incorporate into our lives just because we like how it feels, without worrying about how many calories we burn, weight we lose, muscles we tone, etc.We will practice yoga, laugh, have discussions, and connect with each other to feel less alone in our struggles.This series is taught by Emily Martin, a 200-hr Registered Yoga Teacher who is passionate about body image and expanding our idea of what someone who practices yoga looks like. Emily trained with Dianne Bondy and Amber Karnes in Yoga for All and draws from her personal experience of practicing yoga in a larger body.
